using Sitecore 8.2 update 4 and SOLR 6.6.0. Currently using a custom crawler to index database records. I have a requirement to now index the actual pdf content the database will house a http://path/mypdf.pdf

As I am already doing a select * through the records in my crawler, now that I have the path how do I add the pdf content to my preexisting custom_index?

I was able to get there in a way using tikadotnet extractor and using the uri path for the pdf, I extracted it and then indexed that pdfContent field I have defined in my config. Have not tested with all pdfs yet just a smaller sample size.

  • You will need to share some details about your existing custom index. None of us here can guess, what you have defined. – Mark Cassidy Nov 30 '18 at 14:58
  • @MarkCassidy sure and its also possible if necessary for me to create a new core and reference a new crawler in my custom.index.config in sitecore. current custom index is just returning text data. My solrconfig is pretty straightforward remote streaming is enabled and most everything is the solr defaults. I access the index via 'ContentSearchManager.Indexes.SingleorDefault(x => x.Name == "cust_index"' What information were you looking for? I would be happy to share more specifics – godfrey jones Nov 30 '18 at 17:09

If you have custom index already defined in Solr -You can use Solr API's directly to upload the pdf/ or documents.

Example -http://localhost:8983/solr/YourCustomINdexName/update/extract?literal.id=doc1&commit=true' -F "myfile=@example/exampledocs/solr-word.pdf"
