I'm just getting started installing a 9.1.1 XP1 custom scaled scenario for a client, but now am intrigued by the nice gui interface installer for 9.2 XP0. So I'm wondering if it might be possible to install the XP0 standalone on all of my servers, then afterward configure them for their intended roles, change the connection strings appropriately for the DBs, SOLR, role services, and then remove the superfluous SQL Server and SOLR instances?

some questions: 1) why do not use SIF for XP1 topology? 2) Are you going to deploy XP1 as Azure PaaS? If yes, in this case you can just create appropriate XP1 SC web deploy package based on your local XP0 instance and deploy that using Azure Toolkit – Vadzim Papko Sep 11 at 13:53

  • I really like your question because you are thinking in a different way, although my suggestion will be the same using SIF for XP1 topology. I have not tried this yet but I guess this will work but you may need to solve lots of issues related to the certifications, configurations(few lines in configs but a lot of things) and many more, you will need to delete lots of extra things with the XP0 such as identity server and xconnect server in each install. And I guess at last you will realize that SIF option is better because it will still not give the guarantee that everything will work fine – Mahendra Shekhawat Sep 14 at 13:00
  • Thanks for the input. Yes, decided to stick with SIF. Got 5 of 10 roles installed so far. Can't wait to get the rest done and see it all connect together. – Bill Thomas yesterday
