I am trying to set up some Personalization using profile and pattern cards. I have done the below steps to achieve this:

  1. Create profile keys, profile card, and pattern card.
  2. Associate the target content items with profile cards.
  3. Setup Personalization rule to match a specific pattern on the home page banner component and change the banner image if a user visits specific page and revisits the home page.
  4. Publish all the above changes.

Problem **: **I see personalization working fine in master DB but not in web DB even after me publishing all the above changes. Any Idea?

I see all the above items in web DB by switching. The only difference is the content items where we tag profile cards have a different icon as below

enter image description here

Below is the caching rules applied to the component being personalized:

enter image description here

I see some errors getting logged at the line Tracker.Enabled

if (Tracker.Enabled) { var interactionProfile = Tracker.Current.Interaction.Profiles["VisitorType"]; if (interactionProfile != null) { if (interactionProfile.PatternId.HasValue) { Item matchingPattern = Context.Database.GetItem(interactionProfile.PatternId?.ToString("D")); if (matchingPattern != null) { Persona persona = GetPersonaDataObject() ?? new Persona(); persona.VisitorId = Tracker.Current.Contact?.ContactId.ToString("N"); persona.ProfileKey = matchingPattern.Name; persona.DatasourceName = datasourceName; SetPersonaObject(persona); } } } }

Set and Get Persona Object is used to add data to HttpContext.Current.Items . In the component being personalized we call another method which would access these context items and add inside a script tag for google analytics.

  • try by switching your database to web and revalidate all the changes there, make sure item associated with profile card are in web with profile card entry – Mahendra Shekhawat Sep 25 '19 at 4:06
  • I tried the same. I see all changes in web database except for the one. I don't see the profile cards to the content item I just see one icon which shows profile card dialog but not the Select profile card dialog as shown in master db. PFA screen grab. – Suhas Sep 25 '19 at 4:11
  • okay, did you publish the content item? is the item in final workflow? this should be same – Mahendra Shekhawat Sep 25 '19 at 4:44
  • Republish the Site once. check indexing status. – Hussain Sep 25 '19 at 5:09
  • Items are all published and I see them on web database as well. But it is still the same. I don't see personalization working in the web database. – Suhas Sep 30 '19 at 2:19

You need to make sure that all your items have been published on the target database (web).

Also, make sure that the Profile Cards, Pattern Cards have also been published. Path is /sitecore/system/Marketing Control Panel/Profiles. I would recommend to perform a Full Item Publish including subitems and related items.

  • Hi Hishaam. I tried this as well. But it still the same. I don't see it working in the live site. – Suhas Sep 30 '19 at 0:53
  • Can you check on the target database of the profiles and pattern card are present? Also on the content item you have tagged with a profile card, enable standard fields and search for the Tracking field. Check if it is populated – Hishaam Namooya Sep 30 '19 at 5:22
  • Yes, Hishaam..I see that the tracking field is populated appropriately. I also see this issue only in PROD CD and it works fine in all lower environments including PROD CM instance. Do you think something is not configured properly here? If yes, What all settings do I need to cross verify like Analytics DB or something? Our PROD CD is behind Akamai and initially thought its cache issue but personalization does not work even in non-akamai url's. – Suhas Sep 30 '19 at 7:28
  • Can you check if the xdb is enabled and also xdb.tracking is enabled? – Hishaam Namooya Sep 30 '19 at 7:35
  • Yup I see both Xdb.Enabled and Xdb.Tracking.Enabled are set to true. – Suhas Sep 30 '19 at 7:44
