Is it possible in Sitecore to publish items simultaneously for two users? If a user is publishing and at the same time the second user starts publishing then publishing should not go to queue for 2nd user.

I have tried changing <setting name="Publishing.MaxDegreeOfParallelism" value="2" /> in sitecore.config .But it doesn't work. Is there anything I am missing?

To enable the parallel publishing you need to:

  1. Replace the standard ProcessQueue processor with the ParallelProcessQueue one
  2. Specify how many concurrent operations you would like to run by placing the expected number into Publishing.MaxDegreeOfParallelism setting.

Following best practices, you have to create a patch file instead of making changes to your Sitecore.config file directly.

Here is an example of how your patch config file might look like, ParallelPublishing.config:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
<configuration xmlns:patch="http://www.sitecore.net/xmlconfig/">
  <sitecore>
    <settings>
     <setting name="Publishing.MaxDegreeOfParallelism">
        <patch:attribute name="value">2</patch:attribute>
      </setting>
    </settings>
    <pipelines>
      <publish>
        <processor type="Sitecore.Publishing.Pipelines.Publish.ProcessQueue, Sitecore.Kernel">
          <patch:attribute name="type">Sitecore.Publishing.Pipelines.ParallelPublish.ParallelProcessQueue,Sitecore.Kernel</patch:attribute>
        </processor>
      </publish>
    </pipelines>
  </sitecore>
</configuration>
