We need to configure Solr 4.1 for our sc8.0 u5 instance. This will be used as a platform for the website search (not the internal search).

The official doc I feel is not really helpful or incomplete.

https://doc.sitecore.net/sitecore_experience_platform/80/setting_up_and_maintaining/search_and_indexing/walkthrough_setting_up_solr

To start with, it asks to place the schema in a relevant core. But which one is it.

I have installed Solr 4.1, but when adding a new core, it gives an error saying - Could not load config for solrconfig.xml

Could someone please help me with the right steps to setup & configure.

  1. Ensure you have Solr Running Properly.
  2. Copy the Solr Support Package components to bin folder.
  3. Enable the solr config files and disable the Lucene configuration.
  4. Configure Indexes.

You can look at this be link url for Solr Support Package details, also you can look the reference link provided in the blog post.

For detailed Step by step Solr & Sitecore configuration, you can refer below links,

Part1, Part2, Part3

Hope you will find useful.

  • Do I need to download the solution and compile to just get the DLLs? And also, for which version of sc/solr are they. I did read the other referenced blogs, but they are not for 4.1. Thanks for helping though – Qwerty Apr 11 '17 at 12:32

Core refers to your index file. Suppose you want an index in solr name mysite_web_search. Steps you will have to follow to create a new core:

  1. You have to go to the directory you installed your solr. Mine is C:\solr. Inside this directory go to server\solr\configsets\basic_configs

  2. You will have a folder called conf. Copy the entire folder.

  3. Now you will have to create a folder for your index mysite_web_search. Go to the following directory server\solr still inside your solr installation directory and create a folder with name mysite_web_search and paste the conf folder you copied in last step.

  4. Copy the schema.xml you generated from Sitecore inside mysite_web_search\conf. Your folder will be like this.

folder before creating core

  1. Go to your solr server on a web broswer. If you have installed solr on the default port the URL will be like this http://localhost:8983/solr/ Click on "Core Admin" then "Add Core" and fill the popup as shown below. enter image description here

Click on Add Core.

  1. Your solr core will be created. Navigate to the folder C:\solr\server\solr\mysite_web_search and you see if the folder is contains this. enter image description here
  • Solr 4.1 doesn't come with the basic_configs folder – Qwerty Apr 12 '17 at 11:17
  • In the zip file for Solr 4.1 there are examples for the cores. go to this path instead to have the conf folder. \solr-4.1.0\example\example-DIH\solr\solr\conf. – adarsh Apr 12 '17 at 11:53
